Buckets & Bytes

Designed for young people to have a thoughtful and disciplined introduction to computer coding as producers rather than just consumers. Participants attending select Game Over NYC events receive skills clinics, drills,and participate in competitive games for 45-60 minutes. They are then directed to our Computer Lab at Brooklyn StuyDome (or to a special tent during our road shows) for an introductory demonstration of the coding process. We teach participants the fundamentals of computers and coding, as well as how they can leverage their acquired skills to achieve life and career goals.


 

Buckets & Bots

Designed to connect some of the biophysical aspects of the sport of basketball–manual dexterity, endurance, hand/eye coordination–with robotics and the ways that machines can be programmed to replicate human actions. Students are challenged to use both sides of their brain in this engaging and technically challenging course, while being exposed to AI (Artificial Intelligence) and other advanced technologies.


 

Buckets & Beats

Designed to expose participants to the technology behind music production,while instilling a greater understanding of the creative process. They are also introduced to entrepreneurship through an aligned focus on the “business of music.” Students are able to gain insights into how to improve their game and creative abilities by applying techniques learned on the court into the studio and vice versa.


 

Aerobic Kickboxing

In this class students will gain the agility, dexterity and finesse of a kickboxer while improving physical conditioning. Whether you are an accomplished athlete or a beginner, anyone can benefit from kickboxing training techniques. The class will cover basic calisthenics, punching and kicking techniques and drills. In addition, students will learn basic self-defense, situational awareness and violence de-escalation. The participant is required to wear workout clothes and may be asked to remove shoes and socks. Equipment will be provided. Classes are conducted by a trained teaching professional in a safe and supportive environment.


 

Basic Photography

Students will learn the basics of photography from a working professional. Students will learn how to develop a “photographer’s eye.” This includes understanding composition, visual storytelling, and how to use lighting and exposure. This includes how to shoot landscapes, nature, sports and portraits. By the end of class, students will make a presentation of their work. A working camera is necessary. Cell phones are acceptable.


 

Basic Drawing

Everyone can learn to draw. In this class, students will learn to express themselves visually, using their natural drawing ability. Students will learn to sketch using basic objects in their environment. They will learn how to turn their sketches into more finished pieces using lighting and shading. Students will learn pencil sketching techniques, how to use the materials and the basic principles of visual perception for artists. The goal is to improve one’s drawing skills and to give more insight into art appreciation. Course materials will be provided.


 

Creative Writing

The purpose of this course is the improvement of writing skills. Those attending will learn how to more freely express their ideas, thoughts and feelings on paper. Students will write, read and discuss their own stories and discuss the stories and those of professional writers. The skills and techniques practiced in this course can improve one’s communications skills, scholastic and professional abilities. This is not a grammar class, although basic grammatical understanding is necessary and addressed.


 

Aikijujutsu 

Is a jujutsu discipline that focuses on the Japanese principle of “aiki,” in which a practitioner blends with and defeats an opponent by using one’s internal energy. While many techniques are derived from classic Jujutsu it also includes techniques from Sumo wrestling and Kashima Shinden. In this class the students will learn a different technique of self defense and learn the history behind it. 


 

Computer Coding 

The students will have the opportunity to build their own video games from scratch and learn the techniques and skills needed to computer code. Students will also practice abstract thinking, problem solving, paying attention to details, effective communication, and proficiency in at least one programming language. We want to encourage students to understand that technology is a wide - open field, and that there are plenty of job opportunities available in computer programming. 


 

Basketball Skills & Development 

Students will learn the skills and techniques needed to play organized basketball. We will run organized drills and incorporate some strength and conditioning training. Students will learn how to develop mental toughness, decision making, and become great leaders. The students will gain confidence and become adequate communicators.


 

Volleyball Skills & Development 

Students will learn the skills and techniques needed to play organized volleyball. We will run organized drills and incorporate some strength and conditioning training. Volleyball will teach students how to communicate effectively, have confidence, improve concentration, manage time, and how to be a team player.


 

Non- Contact Boxing

Students will learn the fundamentals of boxing and how to respect the craft; while learning additional self-defense techniques. Boxing will make it easier for the students to interact socially. Students will learn how to focus, build character, and gain physical strength. Boxing requires self - discipline and teaches students how to tackle obstacles and overcome adversity. 


 

Pickleball SKILLS & DEVELOPMENT

Students will learn the basic skills and techniques needed to play organized Pickleball. We will run organized drills and incorporate some strength and conditioning training. Pickleball will teach students how to communicate effectively, have confidence, improve concentration, manage time, and how to be a team player.


 

SOCCER SKILLS & DEVELOPMENT

Students will learn the skills and techniques needed to play organized soccer. We will run organized drills and incorporate some strength and conditioning training. Soccer will teach students how to communicate effectively, have confidence, improve concentration, manage time, and how to be a team player.
